My Presentation

I chose to do my presentation on trees and what all they can do for us. I couldn't believe how many items we actually get from trees. I guess I just never really thought about it before. I think children would be interested in this. I certainly was. So here is my presentation.

Thoughts About Blogging

I thought it was a good idea to do the blogging with the ffith grade students. I learned that these students do very well with writing or blogging on the computer. They were able to post their opinions as well as comment on our pages and our comments to them. I would probably use some sort of blogging with my students. Probably not a long term project on blogging but something to get them used to it and able to understand what goes on with it. I had done nothing with blogging until this class and technology will be even more advanced by the time I have my own class. They will need the experience and understanding of blogs to get through and succeed in some of their classes and just everyday life.

and here is my version that I changed, Stars, Stars

CSO for Scratch

The CSO that this scratch game would cover would be for geometry. M.S.G.3 is the CSO. It's description:Through communication, representation, reasoning and proof, problem solving, and making connections within and beyond the field of mathematics, students will
· analyze characteristics and properties of two- and three-dimensional geometric shapes and develop mathematical arguments about geometric relationships,
· specify locations and describe spatial relationships using coordinate geometry and other representational systems,
· apply transformations and use symmetry to analyze mathematical situations, and
· solve problems using visualization, spatial reasoning, and geometric modeling.

Scratch Game

The scratch game that I like is a math one. It is called Star Power. This game allows the student to change the size, color, and number of points a star has. This will give them the chance to see how exactly changing these things changes the actual star.

Website Validation

The website I chose to validate was Dog Island Free Forever. The domain name is not one that would be recognized by anyone. Also, the extension is .com which is a company and anyone as access to creating a site at this extension. I couldn't really find a publisher for this site even when I used www.easywhois.com. The contact listed for this site is SavyStudio.comLLC so that didn't help either. There was no real history except for some layout changes and that lead me nowhere in validating it. The external links were completely off the wall. They led to some really odd sites. The links weren't apparent either. If your mouse went over the word, you saw a hand letting you know there was a link but there was nothing else.

Student Sample

Here is my student sample. It is not exactly how it actually looks in word but I couldn't get it posted any other way.

Delicious Bookmark

I chose the site www.slideshare.net it allows you to post power point presentations and microsoft word documents. This would be big help when trying to share information that is not in a particular web design. This is how I could post my WebQuest student sample.

Chosen WebQuest

The WebQuest I chose was Halloween Fright Party. It is a math WebQuest for 3-5 grades.

I am going to change the color scheme. What is yellow now, I want to make orange and the blue to black. I will also change to color of the writing to match and show up. I am going to add some clip art or graphics to the pages as well. Lastly, there is a link to a party planner sheet that doesn't work so I am developing one of my own to attach to it.

Photo Story Reflection

Once I got Photo Story downloaded on my computer (which took forever) I enjoyed putting it together. It was fun trying to determine the type of music I wanted to put on there. I also liked that I could just load the pictures and then rearrange them however I wanted. I think it would be a good project to do with students. It would be a nice way to better understand each student: how they think, what they think/feel, and so on. Give them a topic and have them put something together. There are so many different ways to do this that you know you'll never have the same thing twice.

Orchestrating the Media Collage

I think there should be a combination of both writing papers or projects and media projects. By only writing papers, the students are becoming limited in their knowledge of media and Web 2.0. If both types of assignments are given, students will become better equipped to work their way in to the new era of learning, working, and living. In the ISTE NETS for teachers, five is Engage in Professional Growth and Leadership. It wants teachers to promote and demonstrate the effective use of digital tools and resources. B. Exhibit leadership by demonstrating a vision of technology infusion, participating in shared decision making and community building, and developing the leadership and technology skills of others.

WebQuest pages

Best Websites:
John Wilkes Booth-(Strengths) Easy to read, format consistent, background information, step-by-step directions, organized
(Weaknesses) Not too many pictures, links opening take a lot of time
Creative Encounters-(Strengths) graphics were good, forward/backward buttons, separate jobs and then work together, standards on the page, time saver for teachers
(Weaknesses) Broken links

Worst Websites:
Landfills-(Strenghts) All the information was on the site, handout, good topic to work on, step-by-step
(Weaknesses) Didn’t correspond to geography, just killing time, older students Poetry of War-(Strenghts) Visualize from poems, picture changes, introduced in non-feminine way
(Weaknesses) Work on your own not a group activity

Visiting Another State

The activity from the learning blogs that I chose was, Visiting Another State. This page was created by Heather Ritchey. For this page, a person has to choose a state he/she would like to visit and why. I think it is very interesting to find out where people would like to visit. The two NETS-T standards that this blog covers is:
3c: Model Digital-Age Work and Learning...communicate relevent information and ideas effectively to students, parents, and peers using a variety of digital-age media and formats.
5a: Engage in Professional Growth and Leadership...participate in local and global learning communities to explore creative applications of technology to improve student learning.
By choosing a state and explaining why you would like to go there, you are providing information about that state to other people. It may be an actual fact about the state or just a personal fact about it. This still allows the readers to learn something new about a particular state or about the person writing. Second, participating in local and global communities is met when various people post and comment on their choice and others choices.
Here is a shortcut to that blog sight:

Who I Am

I am an elementary education major. I'm considering getting a minor in library science. I grew up in Grafton, WV and went to the only high school there. I'm a little nervous about this class. I don't do a whole lot with the internet and hope that I can get a grasp on it. I started out as a pre-pharmacy major at WVU and quickly changed my mind. I know, BIG difference. I have taught dance for seven years and really enjoy working with the children. That is why I want to become a teacher. My mother is a teacher and tells me I am crazy for choosing this career. However, this is the only thing I can see myself doing.
